Library Relocation |

The Geraldton-Greenough Regional Library will be relocating to Marine Terrace next year. The City of Geraldton-Greenough has purchased a former supermarket site which fronts Marine Terrace and backs on to Chapman Road. The Library is being relocated for two reasons. Firstly, the newly amalgamated City of Geraldton and Shire of Greenough needs room to house its considerable staff and its council chambers in one location. At present, facilities and staff are located on two separate sites and this situation leads to inefficiencies and poor customer service. The Library has outgrown its present location. Changing technologies, a growing population, increased staffing, diversity of services offered, larger collections and lack of storage space have all contributed to general overcrowding. The opportunity to relocate is seen as a chance to plan the library around the services we offer. Benefits will include adequate office space for staff, meeting rooms, dedicated areas for WiFi users, a parking area directly behind the building, a shopfront location as well as storage facilities and room to house our growing collection. Funding These plans are still being finalised, but we would like to keep our patrons informed about any developments as they occur. To view the plans for the proposed Library floor plan click here . The projected time for opening of the new Library is June 2010 The Library is moving into the old Rigter’s Bilo Supermarket with two frontages – Marine Terrace (near the Police Station) and Chapman Road (next to Breakers Bar & Café) QUESTIONS POSTED ON OUR LIBRARY RELOCATION DISPLAY BOARD Do you like chicken? How many Libraries are there? Have more Asian Literature and writers, more European writers who have written in English and be more international instead of having bigoted tunnel vision.
